Story

Dr. Pavitra (Madhurima) is a psychiatrist who works in a mental hospital. Sri Krishna (Suresh Gopi) is a successful criminal lawyer. Bujji (Ajay) works under Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna and Pavitra are disciples of a godman. Pavitra had family dispute with her brother-in-law and he dies under suspicious circumstances. And slowly a few people associated with Pavitra gets killed and the needle of suspicion turns towards Pavitra. The rest of the film is all about whodunit!

Artists Performance

Ajay did the title role in this movie. He played one of the important characters and he is good. Madhurima looks cute and entire story revolves around her. But she didn’t suit the role of a psychiatrist in this movie. Sai who did the role of a guy suffering from borderline personality disorder did well and has good future if he selects roles judiciously. His character is revealed only in the second half. The character played by Suresh Gopi doesn’t require him to do it as the character is not that important in the movie. Nassar did the role of a cop. One wonders what Sunil is doing in this movie as the comedy written for him is bland. The comedy episodes canned on Master Bharat, MS Narayana, Dharmavarapu, Jenni etc in Mental hospital are in poor taste. Vijaya Chandar did the role of heroine’s father.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie deserves a special mention. Debutant director Murthy excelled in story department. Story of the movie is complicated with needle of suspicion pointing out to each and every major character of the movie. What lacked in the movie is a gripping screenplay and strong narration that would make the story appealing on the screen. Murthy who came up with complicated and intelligent story couldn’t match it with screenplay and narration. The first half is boring. There are interesting elements in the second half towards climax, but by then it was too late. The director couldn’t do the detailing in properly though he has taken more than 2 and half hours to narrate the story. The director inserted bland comedy and songs which are unnecessary for a thriller

Other departments

Background music of the movie is adequate. A thriller like this shouldn’t have any songs, hence the songs in this movie are uninteresting. Dialogues are adequate. Cinematography is alright. Editing is not up to the mark.

Analysis

First half of the movie is boring. Movie gets better in climax where all the jigsaw pieces of the story are arranged properly. The plus point of the movie is story. The negative points are screenplay, narration and runtime. A thriller like Aa Okkadu should be compact and to the point, but the director has taken more than 2 and half hours to narrate it. On a whole, Aa Okkadu is a well-intended effort that has gone wrong due to inefficient screenplay and uninteresting narration.
